P.S. I'M A TERRIBLE PERSON
Currently writing 'P.S. I'M A TERRIBLE PERSON'.
P.S. is a dark comedy musical that tells an honest story about addiction through the eyes of fiercely intelligent 16-year-old Martha Weiss. Based on real life events, we dive headfirst into Martha’s world, experiencing addictive rituals and NHS wards through her musical theatre tinted spectacles. How can she explain compulsions that simply don’t make sense to “normal people”…? With a tap number, of course. It’s a big, energetic production musical which forces us to confront our own relationships with the best / worst parts of ourselves (often, one and the same).
This show is the high before a caffeine-crash. It’s twisted, and funny, and addictive. Provoking frank, much-needed conversations about disordered eating with all the high-octane headiness of a modern musical.
Shortly after writing began, the show was nominated for the Charlie Hartill Award (Pleasance Theatre). 'P.S.' then had an initial workshop at Chichester University in November 2019, before being fully produced by Pint of Wine Theatre (www.powtheatre.co.uk) in Feb 2020. After a storming showcase at the Soho Theatre in March 2020, the show is being fully workshopped in October 2020, with a full production team and west-end cast.
'PUBLIC DOMAIN' - A fast-paced, genre-bending verbatim musical about the real people behind social media. Their words. Our Music. Multi-rolled by Forristal & Clarke. Made with the words of YouTube vloggers, Insta ‘influencers,’ and Facebook’s tech giants. Think Black Mirror meets Pop, via Michael Friedman and The Civillians. THE VISION Public Domain is a high-adrenaline mix of electronic tracks and LX-design, tackling privacy, data, power and responsibility. We ask how verbatim musical theatre can speak to tech advances like ‘deepfake’ (doctoring what people say in videos), content monitoring, and data privacy ethics. Who owns our voices online?
'PUBLIC DOMAIN' was bound for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August until the world changed and that was no longer possible. We're now workshopping it for a socially-distanced production in Nov/Dec 2020, and are recording an original cast album in September 2020.
